CONSTELLATIONS well placed in evening during February 2016

North to South, at 7-9 pm:

  • Ursa Minor, the Little Bear, also the Little Dipper
  • Camelopardalis,
  • Perseus, the King of Mycenae and slayer of monsters
  • Auriga, the Charioteer
  • Taurus, the Bull
  • Orion, the Hunter
  • Lepus, the Rabbit

SKY EXTRAS in February 2016

  • The moon meets up with Mercury and Venus just before sunrise on the morning of Saturday, February 6. Have a look to the southeast about 7:00 am or a bit earlier.
  • Jupiter's moon Ganymede leaves a shadow in the middle of Jupiter's face, February 16 about 11:30 pm.
  • Comet Catalina C/2013 US10 will fade rapidly but will still be visible in binoculars all month relatively high in early evenings, in the constellation Camelopardalis.
  • No great meteor showers in February.
